Master’s

1. Semester limit: 4 (ahead of schedule: 2)

2. Credit requirement: 24

3. GPA: 3.0 (ahead of schedule 4.3)

Doctoral

1. Semester limit: 4 (ahead of schedule: 3)

2. Credit requirement: 36

1. Semester limit: 8 (ahead of schedule: 5)

2. Credit requirement: 54

3. GPA: 3.0 (ahead of schedule 4.0)

Credits Recognition

Courses taken at graduate school, a C or higher is accepted for Master’s courses and a B or higher is accepted for Doctoral courses.

 

Doctoral degree candidate who got a Master’s degree at Chonnam National University

Start from 2020, if the same subjects are completed in the Master's and the Doctoral courses, duplicate credits will not be calculated.

 

 

Department bylaws

 

All credits earned in other departments are recognized, but in the Department of Molecular Medicine, it is mandatory to complete at least 12 credits including 6 credits in seminar subjects for Master’s; at least 24 credits including 12 credits in seminar subjects for integrated.

 

The credits earned by transferred students from the cooperative course in the Department of Molecular Medicine should follow the bylaws of the previous department, but if there are reasons that the student cannot meet the bylaws, the Committee can discuss and make a decision.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

[Graduation]

 

Credit requirements 

- Master’s 24; Doctoral 36; Integrated 54; overall GPA : 3.0 

- Minimum credits: For master's and doctoral, above 12 credits including 6 credits for seminar courses;

For integrated, above 24 credits including 12 credits for seminar courses.

- Start from 2020, if the same subjects are completed in the Master's and the Doctoral courses, duplicate credits will not be calculated.

- Criteria for transfer: The credits earned by transferred students from the cooperative course in the Department of Molecular Medicine should follow the bylaws of the previous department, but if there are reasons that the student cannot meet the bylaws, the Committee can discuss and

Language Exam, Comprehensive Exam

Students must apply and pass the examinations within the relevant period. 

According to the bylaws in department of Biomedical Sciences, Korean take English exam,

and foreigner take Korean exam.

Publication requirements for thesis defense


 


1. Masters


- For students who entered the BioMedical Sciences Graduate Program (BMSGP) in 2017 and after, they should publish at least one paper in a journal enlisted on SCI(E) as student being author (either 1st or co-author) and his/her thesis adviser being corresponding author. Counted as publication are papers that are either published or e-pub between admission to the BMSGP and application to the thesis defense.


 


2. PhD and MS/PhD combined


 


- For students who entered the BMSGP in 2015-2020, they should publish at least one paper in a journal enlisted on SCI(E) 

as student being 1st author and his/her thesis adviser being corresponding author. If there are more than one 1st author, the number of published paper (X) is calculated as 1/n (n is the number of 1st authors) and X should be 1 or more. Neither books nor case reports are counted as publication. If the journal’s impact factor (IF) ranks 10% or less in the Subject Category, the 1/n rule does not apply albeit multiple 1st authors. The journal IF is determined based on the thesis submission year’s Journal Citation Reports (JCR). Counted as publication are papers that are either published or e-pub between admission to the BMSGP and application to the thesis defense.


 


- For students who enter the BMSGP in 2021-2022, one of the following should be met. All papers should be published in journals enlisted on SCI(E) as student being 1st author and his/her thesis adviser being corresponding author. The journal IF is determined based on the thesis submission year’s JCR. Neither books nor case reports are counted as publication. Counted as publication are papers that are either published or e-pub between admission to the BMSGP and application to the thesis defense.


1) The sum of journal IF in which papers are published should be 5 or more.


2) One paper published in a journal whose impact factor ranks 10% or less in the Subject Category.


3) Two papers


 


- For students who enter the BMSGP in 2023 and after, one of the following should be met. All papers should be published in journals enlisted on SCI(E) as student being 1st author and his/her thesis adviser being corresponding author. The journal IF is determined based on the thesis submission year’s JCR. Neither books nor case reports are counted as publication. Counted as publication are papers that are either published or e-pub between admission to the BMSGP and application to the thesis defense.


1) The sum of journal IF in which papers are published should be 7 or more.


2) One paper published in a journal whose impact factor ranks 10% or less in the Subject Category.


 


- For students who transferred from Molecular Medicine Interdisciplinary Program (MMIP), they are subjected to the publication requirement rule in MMIP.
